'WEIGHTS MAKE YOU BIG . . .?'

THE FEAR FACTOR

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all settling in the New Year well!

One day, I was in the gym with my fiancé, and I was sitting on the abductor machine when two people came over to the adjacent calf raise machine.

I overheard them talking, and I am not sure what he said but it provoked this response from the lady: “. . . na, I don’t wanna get big legs”, and I’m sitting there thinking, ‘man, to people still believe this shit?’.

It was the nature of this conversation that I thought I’d address today.

The sad truth is, a lot of women still seem to think that they’ll get ‘big and muscular’ when they start hitting the weights, and this is just not true.

There are so many different rep ranges and weighted equipment at different levels of weight, that you cannot just think you’re going to gain size just because you starting hitting the weights - it’s preposterous.

This woman, who was provoked into that response, was overweight, so I understand why she didn’t want to gain more weight, who would?

But, to let this general idea that ‘weights will make you big’ almost provoke like a type of fear that prevents you from trying any other equipment than cardio equipment, is something you should ‘nip in the bud’ right away!

I have met dozens of women throughout my fitness career, who do a combination of weights and cardio 3-5 times a week, and their results are WEIGHT LOSS, and slight increases in muscle definition and strength, but not weight gain.

So guys, if you know anyone that still believes that ‘weights make you big and chunky’, I’m entrusting you to ‘snap them out of it!

It’s preventing them from progressing down their fitness journey and achieving the results they desire.

No one deserves to have their dreams squandered because of a fairy tale fear, especially when they have built up the courage to get themselves to the gym and put in the work!

  1. WEIGHTS DON’T MAKE YOU ‘BIG AND CHUNKY’.

  2. It all depends on your type of your training AND what and how much you eat in the kitchen!
