OLYMPIC LIFTS: A COMPARISON

AND THE APPLICATION OF TRADITIONAL LIFTS

Hi everyone!

I wanted to go through a quick list of Olympic lifts with you all, so you are clear on the differences, if ever it comes up in conversation, or in competition.

The quick list of Olympic lifts . . .

Olympic Lift

Traditional Lift

Barbell Muscle Snatch

Barbell Bench Press

Barbell Clean

Barbell Squat

Barbell Clean + Jerk

Barbell Deadlift

Barbell Squat Snatch

Barbell Shoulder Press

Barbell Power Snatch

Barbell Bent-Over Row

Snatch Balance

Barbell Lunge

You need a strong traditional lifting foundation to progress to Olympic lifting, because of the movements involved. For example, you need experience in barbell squats, because the squat is used in every single movement to some degree.

You also need the barbell shoulder press and push-press for the clean + Jerk movement. Additionally, you need to be proficient in the deadlift and bent-over row to perform the clean movement.

I say this, because more men and women are performing in CrossFit events, or events similar, because it makes them feel good.
