The Nuance of Exercise
And Recovery Strategies to Rebuild!
There have always been two sides to the same coin when it comes to exercise:
1) It can stimulate health and performance benefits, and
2) It uses multiple different bodily systems at once, creating enormous stress on the body.
Therefore, if you don’t recover properly with sleep, hydration, food, an yes, supplements, then your body is going to break down at an exponential rate.
During exercise, the adrenaline is pumping and it make you feel good during a good run, or gym session . . . initially.
What happens after that? Your body needs food, right? Some may even say, caffeine!
This is because, in addition to you using your muscles, bones, joints, and ligament, you’re also using your nervous system and lymphatic systems during exercise.
Your rest/digest, your fight/flight/freeze. This is your sympathetic nervous system kicking into gear.
Your lymphatic system - a huge part of your immune system - is under neurological and mechanical stress, so to combat these effects of exercise you MUST:
Get 7-9 hours of high quality sleep/night. If this isn’t possible try and get 6-7 hours - your body needs it!
Consume enough calories for bodily maintenance and for your exercise goals!
Hydrate 2-4 litres of water/day, because the ‘maximum’ amount of 2 litres isn’t realistic.
Supplement with nutrition from a company that has a wholistic approach (as in WHOLE for whole milk, the same applies here)
Use other exercise recovery strategies as mentioned in previous articles: ‘Ouch!’ . . . I said NO!’ ''Ouch!' . . . I said NO!' (beehiiv.com) The Duality of Fitness PART II The Duality of Fitness (beehiiv.com), and ‘Wait, ‘Humpty Dumpty… Had DOMS?!’ Wait, 'Humpty Dumpty... Had DOMS?! (beehiiv.com)
