EXERCISE PREHAB/REHAB

The Breakdown!

Exercise Prehab/Rehab, I feel, doesn’t get the spotlight it deserves.

Since ancient Greece, a Philosopher name Flavius Philostratus, was said to author at least five books on athletic training and periodisation.

Exercise Prehab/Rehab is used interchangeably because they are siblings, mainly. And exercise prehab/rehab are part of the ‘Recovery Mesocycle’, mainly to recover from your sporting competition or a sustained injury.

A Russian Professor of Physical Education, was the first to attempt to make sports, or exercise periodisation scientific, and it worked, for the most part.

Through the above mentioned pioneers, we can now plan our fitness to either:

> Recover from an event or injury.

> Build an athletic base which includes building up our aerobic endurance, and base level strength

> Build upon that athletic base by increasing the intensity, and introduce sports/exercise specifics that’s relevant to your sport (running, e.g.)

> Reach peak level prior t competition and focus on practicing in event conditions, so you’re FULLY prepared for your competition or PB

It’s important that you understood that your recovery is an important part of a much bigger picture for your fitness and health progress.

However, on the point of ‘Exercise Prehab/Rehab’, the exercises that can be used to help you rehabilitate yourself back into ‘Top Shape’ are:

  1. Banded Internal Rotations

  2. Banded External Rotations

  3. Scapula Pull-ups

  4. Scapula Push-ups

  5. Banded Face-pulls

  6. Banded Standing Lateral Leg Raises

  7. Seated Barbell Back Squats

  8. Seated Kettlebell/Dumbbell Front Squats

  9. Barefoot Barbell Calf Raises

  10. Barefoot Running

All of the above exercises can be used as part of your ‘Exercise Prehab/Rehab’.
