EATING FOR FITNESS 'TYPE'

THINKING ABOUT YOUR STRATEGY

Hi everyone!

Today, I wanted to share a thought about ‘Eating for your Chosen Component of Fitness’. This thought has been on my mind for some time. . .

When a body builder trains, he learns to eat to bulk up, and then eat to ‘cut’. However, what I have noticed is that this concept for ‘Eating for the Type of Training’ you are doing, doesn’t seem to get emphasized enough.

For example, when you are training for endurance there seems to be more of an emphasis on carbs, even though you should still consume adequate protein. However, when you’re training for strength, a higher protein content always seems to be recommended - and this is not be accident!

When I was reading through some of the sessions a CrossFit athlete partakes, I was still amazed at the level this athlete went to to be the BEST. His name is Mat Fraser.

I went i to detail in his book ‘Hard Work Pays Off’, and even has headings at the top of some those pages titled, ‘Eating for Endurance’, and ‘Eating for Strength’.

There was also an emphasis on the amount of calorie and how they differed. This strategy was kept secret from the CrossFit community until after he retired, and rightly so! Would you want someone to find out your strategy, so they can gain ground on you? Hell No!

This is something to think about guys, and when you are switching training from one component (e.g. endurance), to another (e.g. strength), try switching up your macro ratios and see what it does for your energy and fitness levels, you’d be surprised!

This also has a lot to do with your parasympathetic nervous system and your ‘rest and digest’. However, that’s a whole different (yet very connected) topic and is beyond the scope of one article.

However, keep your eyes peeled, as I will be discussing this in future articles and how it links into exercise recovery.

Thanks for reading!
