DEDICATION to Exercise . . .
And the Battle Between Work Patterns and Recovery
I want so bad to be a CrossFit Champion (Legit), but yesterday I realised how tired I actually was due to my ever fluctuating work pattern. It’s very difficult to recovery your body properly when your body clock is all over the ‘bloody place’.
This is an odd feeling because this type of thing makes me even more URGENT, because it’s like the battle for my time - I want to put in the time to work towards my Competition Goals for the swimming and CrossFit events I have coming up in the next 24 months, however, the lack of sleep or quality of sleep has me doing this constant internal battle.
I find myself falling asleep while reading some good books - reading brings me way down and helps me relax - for 30 minutes I nod off!
While it’s true that you should get sleep where you can, it is very difficult to maintain a pattern that allows your body to adapt and recover correctly.
Now, I’m the type of person who, when challenged (even by things that effect my sleep) it makes me WANT to do MORE exercise, and I have been this way ever since I was 14 - When you or something else (body clock effected by work patterns) tells me I “can’t do something” I want to do it MORE!
Now some of you may be thinking that this is stubborn, however, I have come to realise that sometimes it’s good when you need to be urgent. And I don’t necessarily want “balance”, because people who have achieved anything GREAT, have never had a “balanced life”.
Dedication is what’s needed and like you lot I need to dedicate time to recovery as much as gym sessions, because if I don’t, I will NEVER have the energy to put the effort in to improve technique, strength, speed, stamina, and coordination.
Thanks so much for reading!
